About
Hi there! I'm Courtni aka Cokie.
Welcome! I am a SAHM who has homeschooled my 8 children since 2014. I have taught or am teaching all but 2 of them to read on my own. My philosophy is that a strong reader makes an even stronger student, leader, and most importantly, an even more confident human being. I owe this passion for nurturing the minds of children to my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Althea Philpart-Tyson🌹. I will never forget the way she made me feel as a child and a student. It is my desire to be the same for your child.
Education
-High School Diploma.
-Self-taught via various media types i.e. Oxford Press reading material, Read Write Inc., Mrs. Wordsmith, The Journal of Learning Disabilities, Abeka, and Equipped For Reading Success.
Experience
- Tutoring since 2020.
-Successfully taught own children to read.
-Led various training initiatives while at a former employer that increased employee morale and knowledge of state and local laws.
Skills
-Patience when the road gets tough.
-A nurturing spirit.
-Seeing my students through a maternal lens.
-Pivoting. I know when to change my approach according to the child's learning style, cues, and personality.
